Server Networks
Share bans across servers you trust, or join the global ban network.
Networks let a group of servers act on bans together. There are two separate systems, granted separately:
Your own networks
Requires the NETWORKS feature.
A network is a named group of servers with one owner server. Every member joins as either a member or a submitter:
- Members receive the network's bans and nothing more - their own bans stay local.
- Submitters also feed it - their permanent bans propagate out to every other member. The owner server is always a submitter.
Permanent bans propagate - temp bans, softbans and cleanbans stay local, by design: only deliberate, indefinite removals are worth exporting.
From the dashboard's Networks page you can:
- Create a network - your server becomes the owner (and a submitter).
- Invite servers by ID, choosing whether they join as a member or a submitter - their admins see the invite on the same page and accept or decline. The owner can change a member's role later from the member list.
- Promote or demote members between member and submitter with the arrows next to each server on the card. Promoting asks first, and offers a checkbox to sync that server's current bans into the network right away - reasons carried from their ban list.
- Sync your bans in - if your server is a submitter in someone else's network, a "Sync my bans into network" button pushes your current bans (with their reasons) out to the other member servers whenever you like. Users a server already banned are skipped.
- Review members, trigger a ban backfill/sync, and set the network's ban policy. The sync applies the submitter guilds' combined ban set to every member guild - member-role servers receive the feed, they never feed it, same as live propagation.
- Leave at any time. Leaving (and declining invites) always works, even if the feature is later revoked - you can always get yourself out.
The global ban network
Requires the GLOBAL_NETWORK feature - granted separately from running your
own networks.
The global network is a single operator-curated ban list. Opting in adopts its existing ban set and subscribes you to future global bans. Your server's own bans are not exported to it; it is a feed you consume, not a pool you post to.
Joining is one button on the Networks page. An existing member is never ejected by a feature change - leaving is always your action.
Unbans
A network can propagate unbans as well, so lifting a ban at home lifts it across the network too. It is opt-in per network, set alongside the ban policy - without it an unban stays local and the other servers keep theirs.
Good to know
- Propagated bans show up in your mod log like any other ban, attributed to the network, so your audit trail stays complete.
- Every synced ban carries its story: the reason reads "[Ban sync: network name] original reason (from origin server)" on the infraction, in your mod log, and in Discord's own audit log - so you can always tell why someone was banned and where it started.
- Ban propagation is job-driven and survives restarts; a large backfill can take a few minutes.
